Eventful Monday for Alpha
RV Fire
06/15/2009 -
At 1346 hours, Company 20 was dispatched for an RV on fire in
the area of Rt. 97 and Speelman-Klinger Road. While
en route on Engine 201, DC-20 (Ayers) was notified by Adams
County Control that they received multiple calls stating that
the RV was to be well involved with utility wires on fire and
everyone out of the vehicle. At that time DC-20 could see
the smoke from 3 miles away and requested ET-19 to be dispatched
for manpower and water supply. E-201 arrived on scene and
set up initial fire attack with a 1 3/4" cross lay
while ET-20 deployed a 200' pre-connect 2 1/2" hand line.
At this time an additional engine from Co. 1 and tanker from Co.
22 was requested for more manpower and water. After 20
minutes into the fire, a 100' Class B foam line was set up to
help fight the fuel fire. Also on scene were
representatives from Mt. Joy Township EMA, Penn DOT,
Pennsylvania State Police, and Embarq. The last piece of
apparatus cleared the scene and returned to quarters at 17:32
hours.

Gentleman's Club Fire
06/15/2009 -
At 18:05 hours, while still cleaning up from the RV fire, Adams
County Department of Emergency Services pre-alerted Alpha for a
commercial building fire at 880 Hanover Pike. Responding
units were notified that multiple calls had been taken reporting
fire through the roof. Upon arrival, units found a column
of smoke coming from the center of the building. While the
first attack crew had difficulty trying to access the building
through two sets of front doors, a second attack crew quickly
laddered the roof and stretched a second hand line. Lt.
20-2 (Myers) established roof operations and his crew quickly
extinguished the fire which was confined to the flat roof area.
It appeared that the fire was caused as a result of careless
smoking that ignited some painter's drop clothes. Alpha
was assisted by Bonneauville, S.A.V.E.S., Irshtown, Penn
Township, and Taneytown, MD fire companies. All units and
Alpha's 38 responders cleared the scene at 19:18 hours.
